Avaaz is a civic organization that is based in the United States. Avaaz was launched in January 2007. It was founded by MoveOn.org and Res Publica. The word Avaaz means voice and it receives support from Service Employees International Union who are its founding partners. The firm promotes activism of global issues like animal rights, human rights, and climate change. Avaaz is considered as the most powerful activist network by The Guardian.
The organization is funded by its members’ contribution and it has a team of campaigners in more than thirty countries who manage its global campaigns. Avaaz communicates with the members to identify the best campaign tactics and sometimes uses advertisement to do so. The campaigns are done in fifteen different languages across six continents. Avaaz signs petitions, and organizes offline protests to ensure that the values of people inform the decisions which affect them and Twitter.com.
The main mission of Avaaz is to unite practical idealists who are fighting for causes such as climate change and building greater support for refugees. Avaaz is working towards closing the gap between the world we want and the world we have by empowering people to take action on the pressing national, regional and global issues that affect them like conflict and corruption. Avaaz uses the internet platform to combine individual efforts to create a massive force and what Avaaz knows.
Avaaz conducts polls each year to prioritize its activities. All the members have a chance to participate in the polls. The employees of Avaaz work with experts to develop an effective campaign which is member driven. The staff alert the Avaaz community through emails. Instead of coming up with an agenda and convincing the members to adopt it, Avaaz listens to suggestions from the members and takes them up. The staff recognise that it takes skills and vision to build a better world and Avaaz’s lacrosse camp.
