Securus Technologies Accuses GTL Of Undermining Clients’ Needs

Securus Technologies has released the first batch of reports on the investigations into potential wrongdoings by Global Tel Link (GTL). The reports, which were released last month, have given out details on the various wrongdoings and integrity breaches by GTL.
During the press release, Richard A. Smith, Securus Technologies’ CEO, said that he was disappointed by GTL’s action. He stated that as a stakeholder in the industry, Securus focuses on satisfying its clients rather than making money. According to him, the wrongdoings by GTL arose because of the company’s focus on making money.
In addition, smith said that for the next six months, Securus would be reviewing multiple issues that emerged from GTL’s systematic wrongdoings. During the period, the company will continue to release more reports and outcomes of its reviews. These reviews are aimed at finding the extent of the wrongdoing and looking for ways to deal with them. Louisiana Public Service Commission (PSC) played a critical role in investigating GTL’s wrongdoing. The commission investigated GTL’s actions over the periods that they were charged with providing the Louisiana Department of Corrections with inmate communication services. The investigation focused on outbound calls from the various correctional facilities in the state.
According to the 17-page report, PSC found that the timers in Global TL’s telephones were programmed to add 15 or 36 seconds to each outgoing call made by the inmates. This action was unlawful and unauthorized. Additionally, the company charged its clients higher rates than the recommended rates as well as inflating charges. There were also some cases where Global TL billed a single call twice.
